Cornwall

The south-western tip of England — granite moors, fishing villages, and a long coast of coves, cliffs, and Atlantic surf. Field notes and photography from visits to the county.

Cornwall is the south-western peninsula of England, bounded by the Celtic Sea, the English Channel, and the county of Devon along the River Tamar. The landscape is a mix of granite high moor (Bodmin Moor), long sandy bays, and steep slate headlands, with a history of fishing, mining, and trade across the water to Wales, Brittany, and beyond.

Towns such as Truro, St Ives, and Falmouth anchor the region; smaller harbours and villages line the south and north coasts. The Eden Project, near the village of Par, is one of the best-known day visits, with its giant biomes tucked into a former clay pit.
